Protect your ears!

The New Year has started out with a bang of cold temperatures and snowstorms. Therefore, before you go out to snow blow or snowmobile, be sure to bundle up your ears with earmuffs. I’m not talking about the earmuffs that keep your ears warm, I’m talking about the kind that reduce noise. Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) is almost entirely preventable. Noise registered above 85 decibels will cause noise induced hearing loss over time. The noise from common machines such as snow blowers, snowmobiles, lawn mowers, motorcycles, & mp3 players will cause NIHL if your ears aren’t properly protected. As a general rule of thumb, when you have to raise your voice to shout over the noise to be heard by someone within an arm’s length away, your ears need protection. When properly worn, Hearing Protective Devices (HPDs) such as earplugs or earmuffs can be powerful tools to prevent NIHL. Click here to learn more about preventing noise induced hearing loss:
