On January 13th I shared that I woke up with a sudden sensorineural hearing loss affecting about 45% of the hearing ability in my left ear. I immediately sought medical attention and began a steroid regimen, which I am still taking. In follow up, I am very happy and fortunate to report that over the ensuing days my hearing ability returned to normal. I also want share how grateful I am for all the support and concern I received in response to the post.

Please remember, if you or anyone you know experiences a sudden loss of hearing, it is critical to seek medical treatment ASAP. There are causes for sudden hearing loss, which can be simple, such as wax in the ear canal. However, as in my case, a sudden hearing loss could indicate a more serious problem requiring immediate medical attention. I truly went for a “short” walk in some of my patient’s shoes last weekend.
